Big black spider

Big black spider

This beauty made his (or her?) web on the wall next to our terrace, connected to a pillow. As the weather is changing I wanted to remove the pillows and bring them inside. I tried not to disturb the spiderweb and had a better look.

Such a big belly! And some ants stored for a later dinner!

Wolf spider in the house

Wolf spider in the house

It seems to be the month of the spiders! This BIG one was trying to hide just at the side of the entrance of the house.

As you can see, he already lost two of his legs. Maybe he had a rendez-vous with one of my cats…

To give him (or her) a better chance in life I brought him to the garden. “

“The many genera of wolf spiders range in body size (legs not included) from less than 10 to 35 mm (0.4 to 1.38 in).[1][2] They have eight eyes arranged in three rows. The bottom row consists of four small eyes, the middle row has two very large eyes (which distinguishes them from the Pisauridae), and the top row has two medium-sized eyes. Unlike most other arachnids, which are generally blind or have poor vision, wolf spiders have excellent eyesight with their large eyes. The sensory hairs on their legs and bodies give them an acute sense of touch.” Wikipedia
